5 on friday: gina smiley and lisa morales
Every Friday, we will be asking a fellow #girlboss five simple questions about business, the passion behind her brand and what motivates her to get out of bed in the morning.
We invite you today to meet our clients Gina Smiley and Lisa Morales of Jewelree Bar. These best friend and neighbor of 11 years, turned their passion for jewelry making into a successful business in just two years!
names | Gina Smiley and Lisa Morales
company | Jewelree Bar
years in business | 2 years
1 | When did you consider yourself a success?
LM: To me you can't achieve success without goals. Gina, my business partner, and I continually set objectives and goals for our vision of Jewelree Bar. To us each goal is an achieved success.
GS: I considered our business to be a success the moment we started vendor shows. With such a great response from women of all ages at our shows we knew we had something. Our jewelry caught the eye of every type of women - young, moms, elders and the fashionistas.
2 | What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?
LM: I am not a coffee drinker....so a good cup of tea! I actually love mornings, the thought of a new day, new experiences and new ideas keep me motivated. Thinking of new ways to make Jewelree Bar more successful always ends on the computer, a phone call to Gina or just playing around with beads, charms and chains.
GS: Having a purpose in life, such as my passion in jewelry and a successful business that I can (if you call it work) continue to grow into something meaningful. Also life in itself is precious and each day is a gift given to us to be able to experience wonderful things.
3 | What is a skill you’d like to learn and why?
LM: Improve my Spanish! My husband is from Mexico, and although I understand a lot of what he is saying most of the time, when he talks to his mother, I understand almost nothing! And when he is chatting to his brothers or friends, I don't get the jokes, the slang or the double entendres.
GS: Honestly, I'm not sure.
4 | How would your friends describe you?
LM: Probably too logical, but hopefully fun, outgoing and loyal.
GS: A little tomboyish (I never grew out of.) Spiritual and a major animal lover. An entrepreneur who has ideas every waking moment.
5 | What is your favorite quote?
LM: "If a task is once begun, never leave it 'til it's done. Be the labor great or small, do it well or not at all." My husband's grandmother had this quote printed and laminated to give to each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is a philosophy and work ethic that my own grandfather taught me.
GS: "The way you do one thing is how you do everything." This quote has really made a significant difference for me in the last few months.
ding, ding, ding! bonus question | If you could witness any event of the past, present, or future, what would it be?
LM: Science has always fascinated me, so I might as well start all the way at the beginning ...how the universe began.
