5 on friday: bex anderson
On Friday afternoons, we will be asking a fellow #girlboss five simple questions about business, the passion behind her brand and what motivates her to get out of bed in the morning.
We invite you today to meet Bex Anderson of Happy Little Flame, a candle company that sources the most natural, clean ingredients to create premium products that are carefully handcrafted in small batches. As with many handmade companies, Happy Little Flame was born in Bex's kitchen. Her family loves burning candles in their home, so her goal was to create a cleaner, healthier option after discovering how toxic regular candles can be. Unlike most candles which contain paraffin (petroleum waste product), Happy Little Flame products contain only three simple ingredients: 100% natural soy & coconut waxes, premium fragrance & essential oil blends, and 100%cotton wicks (zinc & lead free). Never any dyes, stabilizers, or other additives.

Years in Business? | 7 Months!
1 | When did you consider yourself a success?: I haven't officially launched yet, but I'm really proud of the strides I've made while raising my two littles full time. Since January of this year, I've asked friends, family, and peers to help me refine my product by giving them samples in exchange for feedback. The result has been beyond what I ever expected! I have store buyers reaching out to me, boutique owners, business owners, and people all over my community wanting my candles! Aside from all of the wonderful prospects, I have grown so much professionally over these last few months - just by feeding my hunger for learning.
2 | What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?: My husband laughs at this. I call it my "belly fire".
I can't imagine life without my head constantly spinning with ideas, without the eagerness to learn and grow, or the desire to build something. Even on days when I'm buried in household duties, or my kids have kept me up all night, I wake up with this excitement/drive/anticipation in my belly (aka my "belly fire"), just thinking about the day's possibilities and opportunities.
3 | What is a skill you’d like to learn and why?: There are SO MANY! Marketing, photography, social media, creative writing, public speaking. I've recently become obsessed with podcasts because I feel like I learn something new every time I listen to an episode. If I can be driving my kids around and learn about social media marketing from several reputable, credible professionals, THAT is a win! It almost feels like cheating. Another skill I'd like to learn is how to shower and do my make-up and hair every morning... but I might have to wait until my kids are in school for that one.
4 | How would your friends describe you?: Busy. Haha! Honestly. I've been such a horrible friend lately because I'm either busy with my kids or busy with my business, and I don't realize I haven't responded to a text message or a phone call until several days later.
So, "busy" would probably fit the profile at the moment.
5 | What is your favorite quote?: "She knew the power of her mind, and she programmed it for success." - Carrie Green
