5 on friday: christina kelley
On Friday afternoons, we will be asking a fellow #girlboss five simple questions about business, the passion behind her brand and what motivates her to get out of bed in the morning.
We invite you today to meet Christina Kelley of Southern Mesa Trading Co. With the help of her husband, Christina started their business in 2017. All of the products in their shop are made with real wood and created by Christina and Brandon in their workshop using high quality wood, hardboard, paint and wax. Christina uses a combination of stencil and hand painting to create custom wood signs and decor. Knots, grain, cracks and natural holes are what make each piece unique and beautiful. Southern Mesa Trading's products are a labor of love and hours of time are poured into each piece.

1 | When did you consider yourself a success?: Any time my hair gets brushed and I’ve remebered to eat breakfast....kidding. I think my benchmark for success is ever changing and evolving so I don’t know if or when I’ll reach “success”. As long as there is a goal in my sights I haven’t “made it” yet.
2 | What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?: I’m very goal oriented and I typically break those goals down into smaller, tangible action steps. It seems too daunting when you look at the big picture and that can be defeating... I like to break it into steps and pieces I can accomplish. Little victories keep me going and getting out of bed each day. Well, that and coffee.
3 | What is a skill you’d like to learn and why?: I’d love to learn how to weld. Wood is definitely my medium of choice but to be able to mix in custom metal legs or accents to my pieces would be incredible. Plus who doesn’t want to learn how to sling a blow torch?
4 | How would your friends describe you?: EXCITED, PASSIONATE, SILLY. If someone ever needs a hype man, I’m your girl. I get very excited about new ideas, projects, brainstorming, the future or what I’m having for dinner. It doesn’t really matter what. I also pour a lot of that excitement into planning and implementing my ideas. I go after things with my whole heart... but probably the greatest impression I leave on folks is being silly and having fun. My motto in life is “if you’re not having fun you’re doing it wrong!”
5 | What is your favorite quote?: "Invention is 93% perspiration 6% inspiration 3% perspiration and 2% butter scotch ripple." - Willy Wonka... he understands what it takes to be successful and he knows the way to my heart... CANDY.
